Several Hints About The Advantages Of A VoIP ADSL Phone

Voice Over Internet Protocol telephony, most commonly known through the VoIP ADSL phone, is the newest in communication technology and allows users to simply use their existing internet connection to make and receive phone calls. This new technology is greatly changing the way that the world communicates. VoIP works by turning an analog signal-like those used on the average land line-and turning it into a digital signal.

Being able to use the internet to make and receive phone calls, potentially all for free, is groundbreaking technology. By using VoIP software, people can completely bypass using a traditional long distance or regular phone service. This is changing the way that people communicate and also what they are forced to pay.

Many of the large phone carriers are catching on to this trend and coming up with their own VoIP services to stay competitive. VoIP services are now available in most markets throughout America. While not every person in the country has used a VoIP service, most know what they are and may use them at some point.

There are 3 different VoIP methods that are used by people today, or at least- in the general outlay of things as they currently are. Those who are intrigued by this technology have the choice of which of the 3 to use. There is not 1 of the 3 that is better than the others, as each has its pros and cons.

The first type is known as ATA and is the most simple and most common form of VoIP. ATA stands for analog telephone adapter, and essentially works by connecting a standard telephone to the computer or internet line to place and receive phone calls. These adapters are often sold in kits by providers that make it easy to open it, plug it and be in business.

The second VoIP method is IP phones. These look very much like any average phone, but feature and Ethernet connection not a standard phone jack. IP phones connect right to the internet line and come with all the necessary software pre-installed on the phone itself.

Finally, the last type of VoIP is computer-to-computer. Many people are familiar with this type and like that is makes long distance phone calls free or very low cost. Many different companies offer this type of VoIP service, usually as a download. All one needs to use this service is a computer with a microphone and speakers (which are often built in) and a high speed internet connection, or better yet - the VoIP ADSL phone.
